Hello, my name is Emmi, a lovely welcome to my bubble. I cook at home and my friends’ house. Also, at my mom’s. And I wanted to cook for you too; that is why sultry vegan materialised in 2019. I appreciate beauty, plants and full, finger-licking good flavours. Plant-based food is endlessly fantastic to me, and the ever-growing buzz around the wave makes my heart go pitter-patter -we are truly making a difference.
I was in the middle of a transformation after returning home to Finland after years of living abroad. I realised there was trauma, longing for safety, love, and connection with my roots, mother nature. On the one hand, I was like a champ after doing all those things myself, all brave and experienced. Yet, I was fragmented inside. So all this transformation, series of reflections, healing and insights led me here. And one of these moments was when I was sitting around the dinner table with my family. It was Christmas Eve, ever so cosy and beautiful. Gorgeous traditional menu in front of me, yet I didn’t know why, but I couldn’t stomach any of it.
All it took was a whisper I heard back of my mind; you should do it for you, it said. You should! That’s all it took for me. No drama, no reasons other than to become a better version of myself, more compassionate. Just for me first and then for all. So I chose to give the vegan lifestyle a try in January 2018, and this decision, the best one I’ve ever made, has changed my whole world.
About the Blog
My appreciation for nature and food is the foundation for the philosophy that is the backbone of Sultry Vegan. I believe that choosing compassion and plant life is a form of self-expression and a language to connect with the world in a grounding and sustainable way. Consequently, it’s truly inspiring to see my special hobby becoming a purpose. The blog consists of my insights, recipes, discoveries, and art in the shape of photographs and recipes.
How I cook
My recipes are always vegan, and I prefer to use fresh and local produce when possible. I love to turn leftovers and those sad-looking forgotten items from the back of the pantry into a treat. The great pleasure lies in the simplest things, would you agree?
When I cook, I am rather spontaneous; in other words, it’s almost impossible for me to follow recipes to the tee. Therefore, I suggest you have fun here and let loose in your way. As important as the flavour is the aesthetics of food and the energy we pour into it. When we charge the fare we make with high vibration and joy, eating becomes an excellent and practical way to add quality to our lives.
After six years of being vegan, something that started as an experiment has become one of my life’s core elements: my value system and behaviour as a consumer and a human being. Choosing veganism has led me onwards on my spiritual path, regained my health, and shifted the overall balance in my life. It has been a learning curve, and a lot has changed in my life during this time, and now I understand why I started this blog. Now I see how I will take it—one step at a time.
